Abimbola Caulcrick, an aviation expert and founder of Funcaul Technologies, has urged the Federal Government to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into Nigerian airports to streamline operations and improve efficiency. According to Caulcrick, the adoption of AI could significantly reduce processing times, offering a more seamless experience for travelers.
In an interview with Sunday PUNCH, Caulcrick highlighted how AI-driven systems have revolutionized airport operations in other countries. He emphasized that technologies such as automated security scanners and online check-in systems have proven effective in minimizing delays and enhancing passenger convenience.
Caulcrick explained, "Many systems globally are powered by artificial intelligence. For example, advanced security scanners can drastically cut down processing times. Encouraging passengers to complete online check-ins before arriving at the airport is another way to save time."
He further elaborated on the potential of fully automated systems, which operate without the need for manual intervention. "In Israel, there’s a company where scanning processes are entirely automated. AI handles everything, and if an issue arises, the system alerts the operator via their phone. This eliminates the need for physical presence, as the system is designed to resolve issues independently," he added.
Caulcrick’s call for AI adoption underscores the growing need for Nigeria to modernize its airport infrastructure, ensuring it aligns with global standards and improves the overall travel experience.
