Government Invests RM9mil to Enhance Teacher Leadership and AI Expertise Abroad

Transforming Education Through International Exposure

The government has committed RM9 million this year to a pioneering initiative that will send teachers abroad for specialized training in leadership and artificial intelligence (AI) courses. The Education Ministry, under the guidance of Datuk Ruji Ubi, aims to enhance the skill set of teachers as a part of a broader educational reform strategy.

A Vision for a Competent and Compassionate Society

At the heart of this initiative is the belief that quality education encompasses more than just physical infrastructure and updated curricula. It is also about nurturing leadership qualities among teachers. As emphasized by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, providing superior educational opportunities plays an essential role in building a more competent, compassionate, and caring Madani society.

International Training Opportunities

Selected teachers will have the opportunity to attend courses in several countries, including Singapore and the United States. Each program will last from one to three months, providing educators with significant international exposure and advanced training to enhance their leadership and AI competencies.

Collaborative Efforts and Strategic Planning

Key figures involved in this initiative include:

• Datuk Ruji Ubi – Education Ministry secretary-general who announced the pilot project.
• Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin – Prime Minister's senior political secretary and SK Jalan Datuk Palembang Parent-Teacher Association president.
• Mahfudzah Mohamed Noor – Director of the Melaka Education Department.

Ruji Ubi has indicated that a forthcoming meeting with the Education Director-General will focus on finalizing eligible teacher selections from various sectors, including the ministry, state education departments, district offices, and individual schools.

Historically, teachers underwent professional development training that primarily focused on pedagogy within the country. With this innovative approach, the emphasis is now on developing leadership as a core component of modern education.
